HCLTech, India’s third largest IT giant, continued to reduce its workforce but at a slower pace with a reduction of 780 employees for the second quarter of the FY25 fiscal year, July to September.
During the quarter, HCLTech also added 2,932 freshmen, up from 1,078 in the first quarter that ended in June.
The total number of employees at the end of September was 218,621, compared to 219,401 in the June quarter.
In Q1 25, the Noida-headquartered company had reversed headcount additions, with employee count down 8,080 for the three-month period ending June.
In the March quarter ending FY24, headcount had increased by 2,725.
For the second quarter of 2025, attrition was slightly higher than 12.8%, compared to 12.9% in the first quarter of 2025, but weaker compared to the 14.2% in the second quarter of last year.
Last week, larger firm Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s largest software services company, hired 5,726 employees in the September quarter, continuing its workforce expansion for the second consecutive quarter. The total number of TCS employees increased to 612,724.
For Q2FY25, HCLTech reported a 0.5% quarter-on-quarter decline in net profit to Rs 4,235 crore. Net profit was 10.4% higher than a year ago. Sales saw a 2.9% sequential increase and 8.2% year-on-year increase in sales to Rs 28,862 crore.
FY25 revenue projection was slightly revised to 3.5% – 5.0% annualized at constant exchange rates, compared to 3-5% previously.
