A family from Miryalaguda is lost 6 lakh after he accidentally transferred the tuition fees to the wrong US bank account more than two months ago.

According to a report by TOI, Dongari Chakravarthi is studying Advanced Data Analytics at the University of North Texas. His family sent $7,100 ( 5,99,174) for his installment fees.

The transfer was made by his elder brother Dongari Pavan of SBI’s Miryalaguda branch on August 27, but an error in the account number resulted in the money going to the wrong recipient, leaving the family struggling to get the money back. Pavan said, “My parents are farmers. With great difficulty we managed to obtain a loan for the money needed to pay my brother’s fees.’

SBI couldn’t help because…

After the incident, Chakravarthi approached the bank to obtain information about the recipient of the money wrongly transferred from his account. However, the bank declined to provide details about the account holder for privacy reasons. Meanwhile, the university has urged him to pay his outstanding fees.

Meanwhile, Pavan also contacted officials of SBI’s Miryalaguda branch seeking help in identifying the account holder who received the money. However, the staff allegedly informed him that such information had to be obtained from the beneficiary bank in the United States.

“Despite numerous attempts to get a solution from the bank, we have not received any positive response. The situation is stressful for us,” Pavan told TOI.

Pavan had immediately brought the matter to the notice of SBI Miryalaguda on August 30 and also received acknowledgment of the same. “It has been 64 days since the problem occurred. I have appealed to the authorities of both banks but we have not been able to get our money back,” he added.

In response to an ‘X’ post by Pavan about his problem, SBI on October 5 advised him not to disclose banking or personal information due to security reasons
