The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has approved the setting up of two All India Coulated Research Project Centers (ACRIP) for cotton in Telangana.
“After the bifurcation of the state, Telangana lost its representation in the cotton research coordination centers at the national level. As a result, Prof. Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) could not participate in the National Cotton Research System for the last ten years,” a statement said here on Thursday.
PJTSAU officials recently met ICAR Director General Himanshu Pathak and Deputy Director General TP Sharma in New Delhi and appealed to them to consider approving a research program under the all-India programme. He proposed two centres: one in Warangal and a sub-centre in Adilabad.
“ICAR has agreed to establish the two centers and provide staff and funding to support cotton research at PJTAU. The centers will commence full-fledged research activities from next financial year,” Vice Chancellor Aldas Janaiah said.
